On May 22nd, an EF5 tornado hit Joplin, Missouri. This was the deadliest tornado to hit the United States since 1947 and the eighth-deadliest single tornado in U.S. history, killing around 139 people, though the toll may rise still further as more of the missing are recovered and definitively identified. The residents of Joplin and the surrounding areas are in desperate need of our support.
Our goal was to raise enough money to pack a truck with critical supplies (water, clothing, toiletries, etc.) and take it to the people and volunteers in Joplin who are still reeling from this tragedy.
In just three days, using various social media mechanisms, we were able to raise over $2,600 in personal donations.
These funds allowed us to purchase over 6,000 bottles of water, 1,000 toothbrushes, 200 tubes of toothpaste, 600 bars of soap, among other necessities.
In addition, we collected over 1,000 pounds of second hand clothing from an amazing local group called Cornerstone Freestore.
